An opportunity has arisen within Openwave for a motivated, skilled writer to join its Technical Publications Department in Belfast to create documentation for installation, configuration, and administration of Openwave products.

Responsibilities
• Plan and write documentation that meets departmental standards for quality. Depending on the level of seniority of the writer, this is done independently or under the supervision of a principal technical writer.
• Work with engineering teams to be sure that information is complete and accurate.
• Work with customers and field representatives to be sure that information meets the needs of Openwave customers.
• Conduct research to obtain in-depth understanding of the technology, including working directly with Openwave products (using the command line and the GUI), reading specifications and white papers, and doing background reading on relevant technologies.
• Use tools for technical publications, including FrameMaker, Oxygen (a DITA-based tool), Acrobat, PowerPoint, Illustrator, and HTML editors.
• Collect and respond to feedback on your work in a timely manner.
• Participate and contribute to departmental and cross-functional meetings, and provide input on best practices.
Position Requirements

Essential Criteria
• Demonstrable experience as a technical writer in an IT-related software company
• Ability to write clearly, concisely, and with attention to detail as indicated by 2 short writing samples.
• Experience working in a team environment.
• Strong problem-solving skills.
• A degree in English, Communications, Psychology, or a technical field, or equivalent professional training and experience.

Desirable Criteria
• Knowledge of software development processes.
• Experience with authoring tools such as FrameMaker, DITA-based tools, and graphics tools.
• Demonstrated customer focus and ability to build productive working relationships.
• Experience in working in a cross-functional team environment.
• Familiarity with Unix or Linux.
