
Consulting Engineers
Consulting Engineers will primarily consult with customers to provide networks solutions practices, involving creation of systems, network and detailed platform configuration designs and guidelines. Consultants should have an outstanding record of accomplishment in SIP/VoIP network design domain. Consultants will be active in the creation of detailed, well written documentation. Qualified individuals need to be able to contribute individually as well as be able to coach customers and subcontractor teams.
Primary Responsibilities:
The Consultant’s customer facing engagements will fall into three primary areas:
1. Advisory: review customer and subcontractor system designs and audit existing systems. Examples include providing technical leadership for best practices in deploying a VoIP solution, and specifically one with BroadWorks products, and providing solution design input into future releases of the customer BroadSoft network
2. Training/workshops: introduce customers, partners and subcontractor teams to BroadWorks and its features, functions, interfaces and network integration best practices.
3. Development: create network design documentation, test and implement the solutions for the customer. Examples include authoring customer specific product, MOP, design documentation that strengthens BroadSoft position, and develop tools using BroadSoft product APIs or Linux/Unix tools that solve problems for the customer or that ease operation in the lab or production environments. In addition, assisting customer in development of method of procedure for migration of solution to new releases, new architectures, and new hardware platforms.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provide BroadSoft account team on account progress
• Mentor newer team members and create internal training material
• Must be able to provide updates and status to project managers and manager as needed for complex and strategic projects
• Must be able to have a working knowledge of project management requirements to be able to manage their own deliverables, but also to identify areas of a project that will need to be brought to the attention of project managers.
WORK COMPLEXITY:
• Ability to analyze complex IP telephony requirements/problem, and design tangible solutions that can be practically implement in a production, Tier-1 environment
• Work is highly technical
• Attention to detail is very important
• High degree of customer facing leadership required
Skills and Educational Requirements:
EDUCATION:
• Degree in Computer/Electrical Engineering or Computer Science
SKILLS:
• Unix/Linux, web and database, data networking backgrounds
o example web and database protocols and topics: HTTP/S, XML, SOAP, SQL, PERL, PHP, SMTP, SNMP, Security and encryption
• Communications technology background desirable: VoIP, telephony
o example VoIP protocols: SIP, MGCP, RTP
o example telephony topics: enterprise PBX/Centrex service definitions (auto attendants, hunt groups, boss-admin, etc)
• Network technology background
o Example of IP knowledge: routing, switching, IP addressing, domains, firewalls
• Excellent communications and presentation skills.
• Excellent written and documentation skills.
EXPERIENCE:
• At least 5 years experience in Telephony and/or Data network design
• Greater than 3 years experience in VoIP network design
o in addition to applicable hands on experience, project management and pre-sales experience is highly desired
• Experience with Network and Element Systems management tools (e.g., HP OpenView, AdventNet)
• Telecommunications and IP networking background, preferably in troubleshooting and technical support.
• Linux or Sun Solaris administration experience with exposure to some of the following: Apache, DNS, Tomcat, MySQL, TimesTen, Java, C++, and PERL
• Experience installing, configuring and upgrading with BroadWorks, Synergy, or M6 systems a plus

PREFERRED BACKGROUND & EXPERIENCE:
• Experience working directly on/with the BroadWorks, Synergy, or M6 platform
